About Justin

Justin Bennie is a sculptor. He works across a range of media, combining materials including wood, bronze, copper and plastic. Drawing and Print-making parallel his sculptural project.

Bennie is in various modes a model-maker, sign-writer, copyist and landscape creator. He manufactures prototypes, to be arranged as working parts in groups. Hand-carved figures and flat relief portraits combine with translations of mass-produced goods and reproductions, to present staged panoramas. Select pieces conjure the effect of a theatre in miniature, others are commentaries on the nature of stand-alone objects.

His drawings and print-making projects explore the language of sign, sound and imagery of the everyday. Heavily worked sketches and studies bring to mind woven articles and textiled surfaces which blur the lines between the image seen, and object felt. The vision is at once measured impression and calculated reality.

Bennie’s works are featured in private collections in Australia and abroad.
